Chapters 20 and 21

Chapter 20 and chapter 21 are now posted on the Putzmann’s Destiny page. Putzmann’s crops are growing as summer progresses, but he still hasn’t made peace with the crows. After introducing Putzmann to the whorehouse, Kirsch next takes him to church. Going to church didn’t strike Putzmann as having the same potential as the puffhaus, but he decided to trust Kirsch. So far, it had been working.

Putzmann starts thinking more like a farmer, focused on his growing barley and eggplant, despite the crows. Krantz returns from a pig breeder’s convention, and Putzmann sees his pig farm up close for the first time. Krantz was no longer the oaf who sabotaged the road with a speed bump, or the wild man shouting epithets about slowing down, or even the oddball taking his hog out for a walk on a leash. Krantz was becoming a fellow businessman in Putzmann’s eyes.
