Chapters 36 and 37

Chapters 36 and 37 are now posed on the Putzmann’s Destiny page. More farmers join the search for Putzmann. It’s past sunset and the snow is falling heavier. Putzmann’s discussion with the wizened old man opens his mind, and now it’s time to go. Follow the glow of Göppingen’s streetlights reflecting off the bottoms of the low clouds. Eichbaum finds Putzmann and takes him to the farmhouse.

Heidi puts the semiconscious Putzmann to bed, and he dreams. He relives events from childhodd through losing his bank job, then back in the snowy woods, following a glow reflecting off the bottoms of the clouds, only to see that he’s hopelessly lost. Heidi appears in the dream to give lifesaving warmth.

Putzmann wakes in the morning to find Heidi next to him in bed.
