Chapters 34 and 35
Chapters 34 and 35 are now posted on the Putzmann’s Destiny tab. Putzmann helps Krantz set up a surprise birthday party for his wife, Charlotte. Heidi comes to help with preparing dinner and confesses her love for Putzmann, but he’s not sure what love is or means. He doesn’t want to lose Heidi and the boys. The children play hide and seek in Putzmann’s forest as snow falls. As the party progresses, Johann bursts in: Didi is lost in the woods.
The men and Maria fan out to search the forest and Kirch finds Didi safe in a hollow tree as Putzmann presses onward, desperate to find Didi. The snow is getting heavier as the temperature drops and daylight fades. He trips and falls down a ravine. Meanwhile, the group realizes that Putzmann is now lost, and they regroup the search effort. Putzmann wakes to find himself sitting across from a wizened old man at a campfire.
